Welcome to My Mother Is A Buffalo!

Collections of Whimsical & Humorous Poems For Children Under 80

When you’re a kid, some things are strange or icky, and some things make perfect sense—although it’s stuff that doesn’t necessarily make any sense to grownups. Before you learned to ‘color in the lines,’ your artwork wandered all over the page, but it flowed naturally from the joy of colors and shapes.

That’s the way these poems flow. This little volume of rhymes is silly, and poignant, and colorful, and, above all, fun! The poems aren’t supposed to make sense—they definitely don’t ‘stay in the lines.’ They’re the wonder and noise and curiosity and feelings we had before we quit imagining.

The great thing about childhood is you can make up your own reality. The box that the washing machine came in is not a box, it’s a spaceship, or a Spanish galleon. A tricycle can be an airplane, and a kid can create whole cities or farms or towers with a sack of building blocks or even sticks they find in the back yard. In a child’s world horses can fly, a tree can be your friend, and the pet cat can play the piano.

This little book of rhymes attempts to look at and listen to the world through the limitless imagination of a child, where there is joy and bewilderment and song and delight.

These books of children’s poems were written by a remarkable dad (Wyn) who has been making people laugh for decades. The illustrator is his daughter, Kim, who enjoys art, creativity, and spending time with her family.

A retired Presbyterian minister, Wyn Bryant is a voracious reader. He loves everything by P. G. Wodehouse, C.S. Lewis, Dick Francis, Tom Clancy, Shel Silverstein, and Gideon Grey. Grey only wrote one book, so Wyn has had to read it over and over.

Growing up, some of her fondest memories were listening to her dad read The Chronicles of Narnia and joining in his elaborate treasure hunts filled with corny jokes and adventure.
